Founders' Story
The story of 9JaChinko began with the shared journey of its founders — a married couple who left a promising life in Nigeria as bankers to study abroad in Hong Kong. They both stepped away from their careers at Zenith Bank after Victor had secured an international postgraduate scholarship for a master's degree at Hong Kong Baptist University.
The transition into a fast-paced and highly digital academic environment was challenging. Both founders quickly realised that the struggle was not unique to them — it reflected the experience of many African students who arrive abroad and must suddenly adapt to systems built entirely around technology.
They saw clearly that the issue was never intelligence or ability. Many Africans simply grew up with limited exposure to the digital tools that shaped the development of students in more advanced countries. The real barrier was preparedness.
This shared realisation — and a determination to make a positive difference in the lives of the future generation of African youths — became the seed that grew into 9JaChinko Limited. As Africa continues to evolve technologically, 9JaChinko aims to be remembered not just as a participant, but as one of the early catalysts that pioneered this transformation.
